My husband and I came on a Saturday after a visit to Great Lakes Crossing. We called ahead to ensure they had space, and made a reservation. When we got in, we were immediately greeted and told to sit in the bar area because they have a lot of reservations that night... even though I'd called a half hour earlier and made a reservation. The bar was cramped and loud. The owner (I'm assuming, because everyone called him Lino) was drunk and obnoxious, along with his customers/buddies at the counter. Of course, for a bar, this is acceptable, but we didn't have a choice of sitting in there. The server was cold toward us from the time we sat down and seemed to treat us differently than the other patrons. We don't even look like poor punk kids anymore, so I'm not sure why the shit attitude toward us. She was definitely friendlier to the older patrons in the bar. The food was just okay. I ordered chicken Parmesan with a side of spaghetti. The chicken breasts were small, and I couldn't find any breading anywhere. The chicken wasn't even seasoned with salt! I make better chicken Parm at home from a recipe I found online, honestly. I was insulted to pay $18 for a flavorless chicken meal. The spaghetti and meat sauce was super-good, though and was a saving grace. Jake got a creamy Sherry sauce chicken pasta meal, which was good, but very rich. We ended up trading meals because the cream of his meal was too much for him, and he said the chicken was bland and he wished I didn't eat all the spaghetti! I would have had a better meal and time at Olive Garden.

Lovely date night. From my super good Pinot Grigio to the tastiest clam chowder, to homemade pasta... I'm so in love with this place. First time here and everything was perfect. Even the in house tiramisu! So good!! Did I mention fresh yummy oysters? Yumm.... Adding this to my must repeat list. So good. Seriously a really nice place that's not a chain... Family owned for 30 yrs! PS... I crave their wine. Can't find it. May have to order bottles online. -_-

My wife and I have been coming here since moving to the area. Killer dinners. First time I ate here, I met the chef/owner and praised him for having better food than I have had at ANY Andiamo's around the metro area. I have had the opportunity to sample several items on the menu, the seafood pasta is probably my favorite dish (Linguine al Frutti di Mare) although the meat sauce and meatballs are hard to turn down... We started with mussels in a white sauce to go with the bread they bring to the table. Salads are tasty, fresh, and they make their own dressings (house Italian is good, I love the ranch and the blue cheese too..). Last visit I tried a veal morel dish and it good, but probably would try something different next visit. I subbed out mashed potatoes for angel hair pasta with that killer meatsauce. It was an excellent decision. My wife loves the combination ( Linguine with meat sauce and Gnocchi alla Gorgonzola) If you do not like blue cheese, this is not a dish for you. Tons of flavor in that dish. I like this place because one family owns it, the food is fresh and tasty, and I feel like it is an intimate setting intended for families and close friends. I am not Italian, but this hands down blows any chain Italian place I have been to out of the water. The wine list is good and the cocktails are lovely. I ordered a tiramisu for dessert along with coffee....this night was full of excellent caloric intake and flavorful decisions. Damn right I will return to Lino's.

Expect nothing less than delicious food blending together with excellent service and reasonable pricing, the result is always a perfect night out at Lino's.

Needs to be said that my wife and I have been coming here for 20yrs. It will be a special place for us, but only sentimentally at this point. The calamari are always nice and tender, not over cooked, but served with cocktail sauce from a jar? Warm bread and butter are nice. Service ranges from ok to ok, food is really nothing more than ok now too. Rack of lamb was tough, ribeye is thin and flavorless and served with no mushrooms, no onions, nothing but a little piece of meat than needs a bit of salt and pepper, mashed potatoes almost feel mixed with red skins and instant, green beans were ok. They were scooped on a small plate, green beans were hanging off and some dragging on the table. This was at one point a solid place for good food, but feels like someone needs a bit of passion. We've been back a few times just hoping that it was a rough period, only to be disappointed. We won't be back for a long time, but hopefully next time someone has brought a bit of passion back to the uninspired food, service and wine menu.

Live musicon weekends. Italian food was so-so. The service was great. The best part which I loved is there bread and salad. Their pasta was only decent and felt as if it wasn't fresh. The raviolis were lukewarm and lacking taste. I felt I had to put pepper and salt on everything. I must say, I had better. This is not the best Italian food in Rochester. I have yet to eat in one. Overpriced Italian food. It's a skip for me.

Went here the night before my friend's wedding, and I must say it was great. The food was excellent, from the salad to the shrimp scampi to my main meal of chicken pasta (I can't remember the exact name; I was drinking champagne and wine and whiskey; I swear I don't have a problem.) The tiramisu was pretty amazing, though! The decor was nice, had an authentic feel. The servers were also quite friendly. I'd like to come back again and try the other good food.

Had one of the best Italian meals in a long time. The best meatballs I ever had. The seafood linguine was awesome. Great service as always.

Based on Yelp reviews and the close proximity to home, and the craving for Italian food, we gave Lino's a try. Seated quickly, first impression was good, the place is clean, nice ambiance, and quick service. Our waiter wasn't overly friendly, but he was very efficient and did his job well. The food was very good, the portions are relatively small, but to be honest the food is rich and very filling, so what appeared to smaller portions really weren't an issue. All in all good meal, and a good experience.

Worst Italian I have ever had in my life. How can you see up cheese ravioli and chicken picotta... I don't know either but they managed to do it. Will never go back even if you paid me to.

I chose to come here with my parents after reading some decent reviews. However, we were all very disappointed. The bread was good, but the butter was cold. The wait staff wasn't very friendly, and the price of the meals did NOT measure up. I purposely came here to try out a local restaurant instead of eating at the Olive Garden, but I've had better meals there. You're better off going to Kruse and Muer down the street.

We gave Lino's a try after some friends gave us pretty good reviews. Since we live so close we were excited to have a good Italian place so close to our new home. We tried Lino's a couple months ago and had an 'OK' experience, my wife had the mushroom ravioli and I had the clam linguine. The meal was good but nothing to rave about compared to other places we have been so we decided to give it another try because we thought maybe we were missing something. Last night we went back to double check things, I ordered the Spaghetti with sausage to see how the red sauce was, since that is a good test of how good a Italian place is, in my opinion. My wife ordered the Seafood Ravioli since she had heard it was good. Our second experience was about the same as the first, the food was good but not great, everything is just kinda blah and plain. I really wanted to love this place but it just doesn't do it for me. I guess the bread they give you is pretty good but even the side salad that comes with the meals is bland. I can't recommend Lino's even though I wish I could.

May be the best Italian Restaurant in the North East area. This summer they had a wonderful deal with a steak and pasta for $22.99 a great value and a great meal. And desert included. The steak was a tender and flavorful pasta, soup, salad were all top notch. I enjoyed everything that I had. The wine selection was reasonable and fairly priced. Go try it.

Meh, we are disappointed. After reading the reviews, I really hoped for a kid friendly, affordable, family Italian restaurant. This place really fell short of what I heard about it. We get seated and the lady pouring the water who I assumed was the waitress was just soo grumpy. I asked her if they had clam chowder tonight and she was like "I don't know, I'd have to ask" in a very annoyed and rude tone. She never did ask. Very slow to take our order when the place wasn't at all busy and they saw that we have three young bored children. No kids menu to color on it so bring something for the kids to do if you must go here. We ordered like the most simple dinners and the kids dinners came out a half hour at least before my husband and I's ravioli came out... What?? Absurd. So now three bored kids who are done with their dinner get to bug the crap out of us while we attempt to eat. So not happy. When they asked if it was ok to bring the kids food first, I didn't realize that they meant that it was going to be SO LONG. Food was mediocre (tastes frozen) and all this was lousy enough until we got the bill (another half hour after we finished eating), and found out that when they asked if we wanted a soup or if we wanted salad with our dinner that this meant another $8 on the bill - it didn't come with it and they fooled us. THEN I find out that the kids ravioli meal was $8.95!?!!! What?!? This was BULLCRAP and I don't think I've ever been so disappointed at a family dinner. I wish I would have went to andiamos.

I don't even know where to begin. Our family has been coming to this fabulous restaurant for years. The food is amazing, and so is the service. Lino and his amazing wife go above and beoynd. The food is homemade, fresh and flavorful. I find the atmosphere to be comfy and cozy. I refuse to go to any other italian restaurant in the area - because I love Lino's so much. If you haven't been - please give it a try!

Lino's is a hidden gem that you cannot judge by the decor. I have been going here with my family for over 20 years, and I could easily say that the meals I have enjoyed here have been one of the only consistent things in my life. It's as if your Italian grandmother who spent all day cooking homeade food is in the back kitchen, and everytime you return the food is just as good if not better! I always get the capellini pomodoro (to die for), I know it sounds simple, but it's ridiculously yummy. They have a huge menu, and their seafood is always fresh, and they also have unique items on the menu such as escargot, and multiple veal dishes. The deserts are also a must try. I should also mention that I have celiac, and they often have gluten free pasta on hand! Listen, when you go here I don't want you to get the wrong impression. You will most likely not be wowed by anything, but you will feel like you are in Italy for a moment. The atmosphere (very dim and romantic), the food is so authentic and delicious! Plan an evening to enjoy =)

My kids love coming here! It is a treat having the owner coming to the table and talking to us and personally making sure that everything was good. Love the chicken parm. and great lamb chops as well. We are looking at using the banquet room down stairs for a family get together.

What a find! My boyfriend and I were craving some Italian food on a Friday night but didn't want to do the whole dress up thing and olive garden was getting old. We drove past here a bunch of time but didn't think too much of it. We were promptly seated and were greeted. I had the portobella mushroom ravioli (delicious sweet cream sauce with savory raviolis and slices of mushrooms) and my boyfriend had the risotto with the caesar salad (perfect amount of dressing). For dessert we had an unreal canolli with fresh custard and chocolate chips and a HUGE cup of tiramisu. Overall, great deal and super nice service without having to get dressed up!

Wonderful food, mediocre service. I have only been here twice, but on both occasions the service has not been great. It seems like the restaurant is so busy that the hostess waiters don't have time to give their customers adequate attention. However, I do highly recommend the food. It is delicious!

It's been perhaps 25 years since my first visit. I kinda forgot about lino's since my college days. Not that it was a bad experience, it's just not on my beaten path and we all know what creatures of habit we can become. So I had kinda family reunion dinner here. Our table of 13 was handled very well by a single waitress. She was perfect in delivery with the exception of one forgotten margarita, easily remedied and she comped it. I ordered Linguine ai Frutti di Mare. Calamari, scallops & shrimp over a bed of linguine with a red sauce. The overall quantity and quality of the seafood was good, although it skewed to more calamari and not enough shrimp for my taste. The red sauce was not marinara and had a nice flavor. And now I remember why I liked this place while on a college kid's budget. Good quality food at a fair price. It won't be another 25 years before my next visit.

Great food and the best atmosphere around. The calamari al lino is an excellent preparation if you like calamari. I have also had a couple of different pasta dishes that were consistently excellent. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauces were very tasty. Although it is not on the menu, the zabglione is a tasty treat to when Tony whips up a batch. The best seat in the house is right at the bar where the bartender (Mike) provides top-notch professional service. He always has a smile or a joke or a song to share. The bar could use a better selection of bourbon, but that is a small complai

The food was good. The service attentive. However, despite being a very slow night we were seated (with our toddler) in the corner. Right next to the bus stand. Our server, Patrick, was quiet and only begrudgingly helpful even after coaxing. The food Is good enough for 4 stars. Everything else sub par. Place looks dated.

Great traditional southern Italian cuisine at modest prices and a decent wine list. The lamb chops are among the best I've ever had, and the quality of Lino's pastas is consistently good. The tiramisu is excellent as well. The best part, though, is the atmosphere and hospitality. A good portion of the staff is family (Lino, the owner, and his wife Vira are there almost every night, and their son Tony is the chef), and they make you feel right at home. The occasional 5 course wine tasting dinners they host are an awesome value as well.

If you would like the best Italian food you need to go here. Ok, the decor as written in other reviews is old style, but the best in the food. The 92 yr old mother makes all the pasta fresh every morning. We had the restaurant to ourselves, a great night out to relax and enjoy true Italian food. Can I recommend that the owners choose Living Social or Groupon to get people to find this hidden gem. So many of the deals are for hidden dives you wouldnt return to. but everyone will return to this hidden marvel!!! I cant believe with all the traffic that comes to the new plaza that surrounds this gem that more people havent tried it.

We've been going to Lino's for over 10 years now and consistency is the rule. Lino and Vera make you feel at home not only with the excellent Italian food but also with Italian hospitality. If morels and cavatelli pasta is on the apps menu order it. It was the first pasta my daugther had (age two at the time) and she's been going back for it ever since. The specials are always great and the wine is affordable. Lino and Vera have been in Rochester for several decades and I hope they are there for several more. It's the complete package, local, great food, good wine, affordable, and great Italian people and service. Anna has taken great care of us and has earned a spot on our family picture wall at home. BRING the FAMILY.

Lino's was always a favorite of mine while growing up. My dad is friends with Lino (who is always there- great guy!!) Everytime we went to Lino's I always got the Ravioli. It was just something about it... delicious! The house salad was always fresh. (great italian dressing!) The deserts are good too. Prices are reasonable and service is good. It has been about five years since my last visit- I can't wait to go back when I'm back in Michigan this summer.

Friends told us food was pretty good and that we had to see for ourselves. I guess we should have clued in they were just being polite! Talk about a place that has jumped the shark! We tried it twice in a month because the first time we chalked it up to maybe it was just a bad day.....but NO. The food is VERY mediocre. The greeter and ownership? Snobs! If you aren't a "regular" or one of their friends you will be treated as second class. And for all of that?? Outrageously overpriced. I'm a big wine drinker and understand that wine by the glass for a very good wine is very expensive - and paying $25-$40/glass at a fine restaurant is par for the course. But grocery store wine that costs $18 for a bottle they are charging for a glass? Basically this place is living on the past (decor and everything) and is completely clueless when it comes to the modern diner. Permanently off our list.

Linos. Definitely a place to go. We ate there twice (in two days) and ordered different items both times. Everything we ordered was great. Sauces were scrumptious, pasta fresh, and breadsticks- amazing.

Disclaimer: I went here with great anticipation and very high hopes. With that being said, onward with the review. When we arrive we were seated immediately. We were brought waters, bread and beans right away. The bread was soft and flavorful. The beans were bland. I could see the herbs in them, but I couldn't taste them. I selected the pollo al limone and my boyfriend picked the cheese ravioli with tomato basil sauce. We both decided on the house salad with Italian dressing and came to the agreement that the dressing tasted like vinegar and oil. As for the entrees... I wish I could say more than "they were okay"... but that's what comes to mind when I think of them. The sauce for my chicken was heavy and on the bland side. The ravioli was very al dente. It almost seemed like they let it dry and then cooked it, but it wasn't cooked all the way through. Oddly enough, my favorite part of the meal was the green beans (and I HATE green beans!). They were tender crisp with a very nice olive oil flavor to them. The potatoes were nicely browned with a crisp skin outside and a fluffy inside. We didn't notice until afterwards, but our server never did check back when were eating. He only came around to ask if we wanted dessert and to drop off our bill. I am very sad to say that for the price I don't see myself coming back.

This place simply rocks. NO B.S food here. I had veal morel, the sauce was done perfectly. Ambiance was very nice and realxed, and a decent price point too. I will be back for sure. It was very refreshing to come across some great food, prepared with care, not overpriced and the service was great too.

It is good....but thinking I might not be in a hurry to return. It is family owned and very authentic, but wait staff is kind of rude and the food is just good/okay.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
